Yesterday, Matthias, CEO of 42media group, wrote about the upcoming Oxygen REST API and revealed some information about it, for the first time.
Like others, 42media group uses REST for their API. You don’t, who I mean with “others”? “Others” mean companies like Facebook, Google, Flickr, Twitter and Amazon just to name a few
REST leaves the, choice of programming framework, to the developer. They can use PHP, Java, .NET, Objective C or Ruby for example. That lets you be very free in your choice of platform, too. Just imagine, you could write your great app for iPhone OS, Blackberry, Android and .NET Mobile and would have covered almost every mobile device with it. Awesome! Manage your Oxygen network with your Smartphone!
Yeah right manage your stations with your Smartphone and I mean manage EVERYTHING! There are no restrictions “we offer COMPLETE access to every bit and byte…no boundaries!” Matthias wrote.
That means you are able to use the Oxygen Management Suite as if it was yours. just build your own frontend and the backend of the Oxygen Media Platform! Brilliant, isn’t it?!
Further Matthias announced a new application server framework, which lets you integrate your apps right into your Oxygen Management Suite. BAAAM!!!! How cool is that? I can’t wait to see it and try it! I will let you know as soon as Matthias let’s me test it
For everybody interested visit the API section at the Oxygen.next Wiki and/or join the open technology preview at http://www.42mediagroup.com/Beta-Programs.60.0.html. In the wiki some sample apps can be found, too.
Still thinking what so special about it others companies offer APIs, too. Yeah right, but have a close look at them. All you can do with them is ad management. Should that be enough? I don’t think so! May be it is enough for some, unprofessional DS software. Professional Digital Signage software, like Oxygen Media Platform, is way too powerful to be limited to ad campaigns functions.
I will end this post with a quote from one of our most dedicated Oxygen.next users from Brazil, because it says everything needed:“The release of the Oxygen REST API will make an API to the standard for every Digital Signage platform!”
