Kommentare? Ja bitte, aber…

February 23rd, 2010

Hallo liebe Leser,

Euer Wolfgang

Oxygen.next API release takes Digital Signage to a new level

February 22nd, 2010

Finally! The Oxygen.next API has been released last week! The API ist based on REST and totally open. There are no barriers. It lets you design your own frontend, integrate a booking platform, import your YouTube favorites or use GoogleMaps combined with the Oxygen Management Suite monitoring.

Visit the Oxygen.next Wiki to get all information needed. You will also find addiotional examples to the two mentioned before.

For all the coders or nice guys knowing coders, reading this, 42mediagroup started a contest to introduce the Oxygen.next API. To enter the contest go to www.42mediagroup.com until 30th April 2010 and submit your application. The best app will be honored with a brandnew Google Nexus One! So get some coffee, shut the door and windows and get started! :-D I am very anxious to see your submission don’t disappoint me ;-)

At last I want to invite everyone to the DSBarcamp in Köln on the upcoming Friday. Right now there are 31 people attending and there will be some nice topics given by different attendees. I will be there, too and would be happy to meet one or the other in person. Everyone arriving in Köln on Thursday already, can join us at the Restaurant Mongos for a small get together.

Next Digital Signage dimension about to be entered

January 21st, 2010

Yesterday, Matthias, CEO of 42media group, wrote about the upcoming Oxygen REST API and revealed some information about it, for the first time.

Like others, 42media group uses REST for their API. You don’t, who I mean with “others”? “Others” mean companies like Facebook, Google, Flickr, Twitter and Amazon just to name a few ;)

REST leaves the, choice of programming framework, to the developer. They can use PHP, Java, .NET, Objective C or Ruby for example. That lets you be very free in your choice of platform, too. Just imagine, you could write your great app for iPhone OS, Blackberry, Android and .NET Mobile and would have covered almost every mobile device with it. Awesome! Manage your Oxygen network with your Smartphone! :D Yeah right manage your stations with your Smartphone and I mean manage EVERYTHING! There are no restrictions “we offer COMPLETE access to every bit and byte…no boundaries!” Matthias wrote.
That means you are able to use the Oxygen Management Suite as if it was yours. just build your own frontend and the backend of the Oxygen Media Platform! Brilliant, isn’t it?!

Further Matthias announced a new application server framework, which lets you integrate your apps right into your Oxygen Management Suite. BAAAM!!!! How cool is that? I can’t wait to see it and try it! I will let you know as soon as Matthias let’s me test it ;)

For everybody interested visit the API section at the Oxygen.next Wiki and/or join the open technology preview at http://www.42mediagroup.com/Beta-Programs.60.0.html. In the wiki some sample apps can be found, too.

Still thinking what so special about it others companies offer APIs, too. Yeah right, but have a close look at them. All you can do with them is ad management. Should that be enough? I don’t think so! May be it is enough for some, unprofessional DS software. Professional Digital Signage software, like Oxygen Media Platform, is way too powerful to be limited to ad campaigns functions.

I will end this post with a quote from one of our most dedicated Oxygen.next users from Brazil, because it says everything needed:“The release of the Oxygen REST API will make an API to the standard for every Digital Signage platform!”

Digital Signage Experts @ISE 2010

January 18th, 2010

Everybody seeking answers about digital signage I recommend to visit the Digital Signage Experts stand at ISE 2010 from 02nd to 04th February at hall 4, booth P72.
It is build of UNICOL, a leading expert of LCD, Plasma and Projector mounting solutions including wall mounts, ceiling mounting brackets, trolleys and LCD stands[1], itworx-Pro Gmbh responsible for a great amount of Player-to-Screen Connectivity Hardware  in the international projects, and 42media group leading in professional digital signage software.

Everybody intrested will learn from daily keynotes how to integrate audio-visual informationmediums into their  enterprise communications best possible. There will also be the possibility of quick workshops and personal meetings. Appointments for personal meetings can be made at www.42mediagroup.com.

In my opinion a very good idea. 42media group and its partners continue the nice idea they started at the Digital Signage Expo in Essen last year. The close working together of different branches, needed for every digital signage project, has its benefits for both sides! The customer has the concentraded knowledge of people, who know how it goes and what is needed. That saves time, protects them from bitter lessons and therefore money. The experts benefit from the close work and might be able to adopt one or another projects they wouldn’t have the chance to call their own without the partners help. And let’s not forget the third winner the digital signage industry. ;-)

Standard digital signage platforms announced by Microsoft and Intel

January 12th, 2010

Yesterday, at the NRF, Microsoft Corp. announced that they will work with Intel Corp. on building standard digital signage platforms. The systems will be based on Windows 7 Embedded Standard and the Intel Core micro-architecture.

Both companies hope to help the market to stabilize with their standard. Further the platform will “simplify development, helping  to lower the total cost of ownership.” says Kevin Dallas, general manager of the Windows Embedded Business Unit at Microsoft.[1]

That’s a really clever move by these two giants. The digital signage market is very fragmented and could need a little help. The hardware market is a good point to start with, but if it is the right way we will see. The question is, why should everybody follow the lead of Microsoft and Intel?

Hallo! Der Oxygen.next Community Manager stellt sich vor – Hello! The Oxygen.next community manager introduces himself

January 11th, 2010

Hallo Oxygen.next Freunde,

Wolfgang

Hello Oxygen.next friends,

Oxygen.next is running for a couple month now and thanks to you very successful. Because of the tremendous and steadily growing success, we came to the decision to bring off a personal contact to the community.

To put in a nutshell: Here I am J

I wanted to introduce myself personally away from the newsletters or similar impersonal tools, that’s why I write this personal email(sorry for not addressing everybody individually J).

I am 25 years old and working at the “42” since the company’s beginning. I finished my apprenticeship as a software developer here and worked for about a year in the support and network operations center, where I managed the one or another server. I still do so a wee bit.

My new and primary mission is to be the interface between you and the team behind Oxygen.next. It doesn’t matter whether you have a problem, critic, ideas or wishes regarding Oxygen.next I am the one you can tell and talk about it. You can get a hold of me in the forum, by email or LinkedIn. You can meet me in person at events I attend for example “The first” Digital Signage Barcamp in Cologne(German link).

At last I want to ask for something important to me: Please, send me what are your hope or wish to get with a personal contact like me. I am looking forward to hear from you and I am happy to start something special with you here. Who knows maybe we meet sometimes.

Best regards,

Wolfgang
